Writing is so simple and easy to do. It is not something that you really think about until you break down and see how writing is so important in our everyday lives.
Doing the artifacts assignment for class, I saw how much writing I did for just one day and also how many different types of roles I play. Also, looking at some of my artifacts that I brought to class, the way I wrote down some things were different.
One example of this, were the notes I left for myself as reminders for things that were coming up. "4 E.H, read CH. 19 and STUDY FOR QUIZ!!", E.H stands for European History and how I need to read a chapter in the book and study for an upcoming quiz. If someone looked at that note for the first time I think that only thing they would have understood was I need to study for a quiz. Little mental notes like these are always burned in my memory and help me so that I won't get swamped with a lot of homework. All my notes are color-coated and are used for things from classes to meetings with committees. If I did not keep notes like these, I don't know what I would do. Writing notes like these show how my role as a student is important to me and keeping everything together will help me keep my grades up and be a student who is focused.
Another example is my the resume I completed for the OSA and Frog Camp Facilitator applications. Since these positions are hard-working and professional I knew my resume had to be too. On it , it has my name, home address and phone number, and also my e-mail so that they could contact me. I wrote down what schools I attended and where I am going to school now, what activities I was in during my high school career, awards I have received, work and volunteer experiences and also references and recommendations. It was a lot of work but in the end, the way it was layed out and put together it showed the side of me that is very professional when I know something I am writing down will be critiqued by people who are trying to decide if I will be good employee and very dedicated toward whatever I do.
Finally, I believe that texting to my family and friends is the one artifact that shows how I am as a person. When I text, I am very goofy and so open to those who I know. "O, mi GOD, mi dae wuz soo long n borin', I wish u wuz here gurl so we can go out n hav fun 2nite." When I text I don't spell the words out or correctly and I just express myself to my loved because I know they will listen. I wrote that text to my cousin who going to college up in Lubbock and I miss her so much. When we do get in contact with each other, we literally text for two hours and then actually talk on the phone twice as long.
Putting together some of those artifacts made me see how writing helps me express how feel, show how I am as a person and also how determined and studious I can be. Writing can be interpreted in many different ways and all those ways can affect us different ways in our lives.
